Kimchi Love Fest At UBD
Bandar Seri Begawan - Spouses of Korean diplomats and embassy staff will showcase a live kimchi making demonstration at UBD's Chancellor Hall today from 4.00pm to 5.30pm.
The event will be an excellent opportunity for the people of Brunei to witness the real making process of Kimchi and meet the taste of millennium. This special occasion is prepared by the embassy as the final highlight of the 2009 Korean Language and Culture Week at UBD this week, co-organised by UBD and the Korean Embassy.
There will be a 10-15 minute DVD programme on Kimchi; a 10-minute introduction about Kimchi; a 10-minute demonstration of Kimchi making by spouses of Korean diplomats; a 15-minute make-your-own Kimchi by volunteers; and a 10-minute tasting and distribution of sample Kimchi to participants, said Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Korean Embassy Park.
"My wife, Min Jung, is assuming the role of headmaster for the event," he added Kimchi, a fermented food made with various vegetables and spices, is a cultural icon that represents Korea. No kimchi, no Korean! Kimchi has been scientifically proven as a health food and is gaining popularity around the world including Brunei. There are over 200 different kinds of Kimchi.
Kimchi matches any food. In particular, kimchi with steamed rice is a perfect match. It can be enjoyed in many ways Kimchi stew, Kimchi pancake, spring roll, tofu kimchi and so on. It has been scientifically proven as a health food, high in fibre, low in calories and rich in minerals and vitamins. It has anti-cancer and heavy metal detoxification effects, and is abundant in anti-oxidation substances that slow down the ageing process of skin and has a diet effect helping with weigh loss.
Kimchi is gaining popularity around the world and has its own entry in the Encyclopedia Britannica. The American `Health Magazine' has chosen Kimchi as the earth's best organic food together with olive oil, soybean, lentil bean and yogurt.
