Thais Celebrate Loi Krathong Festival At Damuan

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Thai community residing in the country celebrated the Loi Krathong Festival Monday night, attracting huge crowds to the Damuan Recreational Park in Jalan Tutong.

Armed with attractive and colourful floating lanterns, many made their wishes for a better life, health and harmony as they gently pushed lanterns into the Damuan River.

Crowds not only comprised of Thais but also local Chinese community, as well as tourists.

"Every year, we join the Thai community here for the festival. I always send my Thai workers here to celebrate the festival," said Mr Steward Koh, director of a local company.

The floating lanterns came in different sizes and shapes. Some designed them at home while other purchased lanterns on the spot.

Apart from witnessing the floating lanterns - crowds also watched the mini fireworks. The event was held from 8pm until 11pm.

"We managed to celebrate the festival with my friends here," said Prayapong, one of the Thai construction workers. "Last year, I celebrated it in Thailand with my family," he added.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
