UBD Undergrads Learn Quality Lesson
Bandar Seri Begawan - A Group of undergraduates from University of Brunei Darussalam undertaking a Quality Management course recently journeyed to Superwater Marketing 4Sdn Bhd (SMW) located at Jalan Mulaut on an educational field trip.
According to one of the undergraduates, the course Quality Management led by Dr Yong Chee Tuan aims to create awareness and provide knowledge regarding the importance of quality. in every aspect of business management and operations- Hence, SWM was asked and selected as a company for the students to base their research and knowledge on due to their reputation as the first company in Brunei's bottled water industry to be accredited with ISO 9001:2000 certification.
Among the objectives of the trip was the study of how quality management is incorporated within the company environment, from theory to application, as well as to gain firsthand knowledge on the importance of quality.
Present to greet the undergraduates were the General Manager of SWM, Haji Abdul Hadi Hj Yaakup, Deputy General Manager, Ann Chieng and Plant Manager, William Chieng. The programme began with a brief presentation regarding the company's background and their goals delivered by the General Manager.
"With the implementation of ISO 9001:2000, we give our consumers a greater level of confidence in consuming our water, because the quality is guaranteed- SWM Sdn Bhd is about to achieve HACCP, which is the highest accreditation level in the food and beverage industry to further prove its commitment towards ensuring quality to consumers- SMW Sdn Bhd is also on its way to achieving ISO 22000: Food Safety Management System, to boost our competitiveness to an international level," Haji Abdul Hadi explained to the visiting group.
They were then led on a tour around the company, visiting areas such as the water processing plant, laboratory and packaging facilities to gain more insight into how quality management is implemented in their operations- "We are 100 per cent confident that we have the best system in place to ensure that nothing leaves our water processing plant that could potentially be harmful to consumers, Every material used in the production of our RainFresh bottled water is of the highest and strictest quality," said Ann Chieng.
The group leader, Chuai Ling, said the visit "helped her understand and broaden her perspective on quality management and expressed her appreciation to SWM Sdn Bhd for making everything possible"- The trip concluded with another brief presentation followed by a question and answer session.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
