Bandar Seri Begawan - A Ceremony to hand over a cheque totaling $57,600 for 12 selected new converts who will be performing the haj pilgrimage this year was held at the Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd premises in Setia Kenangan Complex, Kiulap yesterday.

On hand to receive the cheque from the Assistant Managing Director of Darussalam Holdings Brunei Islamic Religious Council, Dyg Hjh Sufinah Hj Sahat was Secretary at the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, Awg Hj Harun Hj Junid. Also in attendance to witness the event were Senior Religious Officer, Awg Hj Abd Wahab Hj Sapar and Religious Officer, Dyg Jurainah Hj Abu Bakar as well as officials from Darussalam Holdings.

Darussalam Holdings also took the opportunity to advise haj pilgrims using their packages to perform their pilgrimage with a calm and peaceful heart and focus on completing their religious journey to receive blessings. It is hoped that the pilgrimage will go smoothly through cooperation from all parties.

The 12 new converts who will be conducting their pilgrimage to the Holy City of Mecca are also provided with other expenses by the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

According to Dyg Jurainah, the awarding of haj pilgrimage started more than 10 years ago. New Muslim converts could apply and go through interviews in religious theory and practical practices before being selected.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
