IWCB Donates To Philippine Typhoon Victims

Bandar Seri Begawan - The International Women's Club Brunei (IWCB) yesterday presented its donation to the Philippines Relief Effort to aid victims of Typhoon Ketsana at the Philippine Embassy.

IWCB President Ungku Datin Fanzah Ungku Osman presented to Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Alexander B Yano the donation of $5,500.

IWCB contributed $3,000 and $2,500 came from an anonymous donor.

Ungku Datin Fanzah said, "The International Women's Club has amongst its members ladies from the Philippines. It is natural that we are very concerned when a catastrophe occurs in the country of any of its members.

"IWCB would like to show its solidarity and support for its 'international family'."

The donated funds will go into the purchase of medical items such as ethyl alcohol, cotton, casting plasters, amoxicillin, anti-fungal drugs, paracetamol, ambroxol (drops, syrups and capsule), Opthalmic ointment and sulfur ointment.

Other items donated included flashlights and batteries, bath soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, detergent or laundry soaps, feminine products and baby diapers.

Canned foods, assorted biscuits and formula milk for babies are also donated to the victims of Typhoon Ketsana.

The IWCB is also donating to the relief efforts for the recent Padang earthquake victims in Indonesia, and plans to host a special activity in November to raise funds.

The club has also donated to the internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in Pakistan where refugees were caught in the fighting near the borders of Pakistan.

IWCB also donated to the provision of clean water to 10 villages in Myanmar devastated by Cyclone Nargis and to the Philippines National School for the Blind.

Locally, IWCB has its support programme for the community that includes activities and donations to single mothers, orphans and the handicapped, recent flood victims in the Tutong District and to the homeless.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
