Land Transportation Meeting Marks ASEAN Crossroads
Bandar Seri Begawan - The Land Transport Department at the Ministry of Communications is hosting the 16th Asean Land Transport Working Group Meeting Group (LTWG).
The two-day meeting follows the 15th Asean LTWG meeting in Brunei in May last year, when the Sultanate was appointed to host the meeting for two consecutive years.
The meeting will discuss land transportation issues, including the follow up requirements from the 27th Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) and other Asean Coordinating Bodies held from May 27 to 29 in Da Nang, Vietnam and from the Senior Economic Officials Meeting (SEOM) 3/40 held from July 13 to 16 in Makati City, in the Philippines.
The agenda of the meeting includes discussion on the status and related development of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint and Scorecard 2008-2009 for ASEAN transport cooperation, Inaugural Meeting of ASEAN Multi-Sectoral Road Safety Special Working Group, Strategic Mean Land Transport Cooperation Initiative, Operationalisation of the Asean Transport Facilitation Agreements, update on the Mean Highway Network Project, update on the Singapore-Kunming Railway Link (SKRL) Project, Transport Cooperation with Dialogue Partners from China and Japan, status of ratification/acceptance of Mean Land Transport Agreements, 4th NTOs-STOM Consultations and Regular Exchange of Experiences.
Under agenda item Operationalisation of the Mean Transport Facilitation Agreements, the meeting will discuss the study on implementing the Transport Protocols 3, 4 and 5 under the Asean Framework Agreement on the Facilitation of Goods in Transit, seeping and needs assessment study on developing implementation strategy for the Operationalisation of the Mean Transport Facilitation Agreements.
The meeting is being held at the Orchid Garden Hotel and officiated by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications, Hj Alaihuddin Pehin Orang Jaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Hj Mohd Taha.
The meeting is being chaired by Md Riza Dato Paduka Hj Md Yunos, Director of Brunei's Land Transport Department.
Also attending the meeting are representatives from the Asean Secretariat, senior officers from the Ministry of Communications, Land Transport Department, and other various government and private sector agencies.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
