Bandar Seri Begawan - A Former Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) man who beat up a man using a baseball bat after finding out that the man had sent a `threatening and harassing text message to his fiance was hit back by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court yesterday with a fine of $2,000 or a month behind bars for his action.
Mohammad Amin bin Hj Suhaili, 34, who at the time of the offence, was unemployed and had just retired from the armed forces, was given one month grace period to pay the fine.
According to the defendant, he got angry because he found out about a text message sent by the victim to his fiance, saying he wanted to beat him up and did not like the fact that the victim was harassing his fiance who happened at that time to be the victim's ex-wife.
The court heard that the victim brought his sons to the residence of their mother (victim's ex-wife) in Kampong Orang Kaya Besar Imas in Jalan Pulaie to collect some of their belongings. The victim and his ex-wife were separated at that time.
While waiting for his son to come out of the house, the victim waited outside in his car and chatted to an Indonesian worker. He wondered why it was taking his sons so long to collect his belongings.
As he was about to make a phone call, he was hit by the defendant on the head, right leg and body. The defendant told the victim to leave and not disturb him and his fiance again.
The victim fainted after the attack and did not recall what had happened. He woke up in RIPAS Hospital.
According to the Deputy Public Prosecutor ChristopherNg yesterday, the offence was discovered only after the victim's son made a report of the assault to the Berakas Police Station the next day.
The baseball bat was never recovered as the defendant threw it away after he beat the victim up. He forgot where he threw the baseball bat away.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
