Blessing Ceremony For Intending Haj Pilgrims In Belait District

Kuala Belait - A blessing ceremony or doa selamat took place yesterday morning for 90 intending haj pilgrims in the Belait District who will head to the holy city of Mekah to be a part of the world's biggest annual religious gathering.

The event's guest of honour was the Chairman of Kuala Belait/Seria Municipal Board, Hj Mohd Yunos Bolhassan. Also present was Belait's Head of Religious Officer, Pg Hj Mohd Yunus Pg Hj Mohd Salleh.

The 34-year-old Headmistress of Sekolah Rendah Labi, Nor Zurina Hj Assim, will be performing the haj for the first time with her parents. It will be the second time for her father who intends to perform the pilgrimage on behalf of his late mother.

She said that it has always been a dream to perform the haj and renew her faith. Apart from undertaking the eight-week course for intending pilgrims, she also made extra preparations by intensifying her knowledge and studies on the haj rites and rituals.
She will be among the third batch of pilgrims who will be departing on Nov 5. `It is overwhelming to realise that I will be leaving next week, and I hope I can cope with the physical and emotional demands of the holy trip," she noted.

To prepare physically for the great act of worship, she and her parents constantly go jogging to ensure that they are fit and healthy enough to perform the obligations.

At yesterday's ceremony, the guest of honour also handed over a religious book entitled "Achieving and Performing a Virtuous Haj" donated by the Serikandi Group of Companies to all intending pilgrims in the Belait District. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
