Case Against Former Minister Hears 15th Witness

Bandar Seri Begawan - The 14th witness concluded his testimony regarding the TOL land being granted to Ted Sdn Bhd yesterday in the High Court trial against former development minister Pg Dato Dr Hj Ismail and the prosecution moved on to their 15th witness.
The 15th witness, Hj Ahmad Udin, held the post of Land Officer at the Commissioner of Land's Office in 1991. He read out his statement in court saying that he had also witnessed the application for Industrial TOL land by TED Sdn Bhd, represented by Pehin Kapitan Cina Dato Lim Teck Hoo. Hj Ahmad told the court that he witnessed the approval of Industrial TOL land in Mulaut for TED Sdn Bhd.
He said that TED Sdn Bhd appealed for a larger area upon approval of the 1.3-acre TOL land and he sent a memorandum to the Commissioner of Town and Country Planning to see if they were able to allocate a larger area as well as a memorandum to the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Development asking for confirmation of approximately 1.3 acres of TOL Land, which had been approved on July 9, 1991, in view of the applicant's (TED Sdn Bhd) appeal for 2.45 acres.
"1 later received a memorandum dated March 11, 1992, informing us that the matter had come to the attention of the Honourable Minister of Development who had no objection to the 1.3 acres earlier approved and also the additional area sought subject to availability.
"Therefore, on March 14, 1992, I sent a memorandum to the Senior Land Officer conveying what I have been told by the Permanent Secretary's Office," said the witness, reading out his statement.
He told the court that in this case approval was given before the area had yet been allocated by the Town and Country Planning Department. By the time a letter for tax payable for the applied and approved.
