Kuala Belait - To Stimulate children to read smartly and to train them in public speaking, the Tadika Alif School in Kuala Belait yesterday organised a 'Smart Reading Programme' competition for upper Kindergarten students.

Jointly organised by the school Parent-Teacher's Association (PTA), the programme aimed to develop the reading abilities of younger students before they enter Primary One level, said the school principal, Hjh Suwaibah binte Haji Muda.

During the competition, the young students narrate words and sentences from reading cards that was being displayed.

By utilising the phonic methods, it would assist the students in their reading process and help them grasp the English language faster, noted the principal.
