Yayasan Contributes Over $40,000 To Worthy Causes
Bandar Seri Begawan - The Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation has contributed over $40,000 to a number of worthy causes and projects in the country.
The Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Dato Paduka Awang Ali Hashim bin Haji Daud, handed over a total of $42,053.10 to representatives of various committees, as well as a new Muslim convert, during a simple ceremony at the Yayasan Building in Kumbang Pasang yesterday.
To support Yayasan's mission to upgrade and promote youth participation in developing the nation, the foundation contributed $10,940 to Datalish Adventure, a volunteer group in Brunei.
Accepting the money on behalf of Datalish Adventure was its chairman, Dato Paduka Haji Alias bin Sh Ahmad. Datalish Adventure will use the money to purchase a new motorboat, which would be use in numerous youth development programmes such as camping trips to Pulau Pelompong Island.
In the near future, the boat will also be used to transport youths to conduct community work in the Sultanate's picturesque water village, Kampong Ayer, and other villages around the country.
To support religious activities organised by mosques, suraus and religious centres in the country, Yayasan contributed $8,000 to Masjid Kampong Bukit, $6,930 to Masjid Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien and $388 to Masjid Kampong Kasat.
Accepting the money on behalf of Masjid Kampong Bukit was the mosque's Head Imam,
Hj Mohd Azley bin Hj Muhd Aliuddin. The money will be used to organise a `Dikir Syarafil Anam' workshop for new Muslim converts in Kg Bukit and to purchase new carpets and three air-conditioners for the mosque.
Representing Masj id Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien was Imam Hj Hassan bin Hj Taha. The money will be used to purchase three air-conditioners for the mosque. Accepting the money on behalf of Masjid Kampong Kasat was its head imam, Hj Makshud bin Hj Malik. The money will be used to organise numerous religious activities and competitions at the mosque.
To improve the welfare of new Muslim converts, a donation of $4,945.10 was made to Dyg Nur Syarafana binti Abdullah @ Cherinda Anak Jingga to enable her to renovate her kitchen in Kampong Selapon, Mukim Batu Apoi, Temburong.
Accepting the money on her behalf was Awg Mohd Salleh Diki bin Abdullah, a religious officer from Temburong Islamic Dakwah Unit.
Yayasan also contributed $4,450 to the Mukim Rambai New Converts Committee to enable them to organise a gathering for new converts, as well as Kampong Merimbun Village Consultative Council, which was represented by Imam Hj Mohd Azley.
Dyg Siti Hajar binti Hj Mohyedeen who is pursuing her Masters in Islamic Studies at Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies Dundee at Aberdeen University, Scotland, was given $6,400 as part of her allowance for the term of March-October, 2009.
