Local Detained Over 3,377 Contraband Cigarette Packs
Bandar Seri Begawan - A total of 3,377 packs of cigarettes of various brands and without any warning label from the Ministry of Health, Brunei Darussalam were seized by Enforcement officers from the Royal Customs and Excise Department during a raid operation that was carried out at a shop in the capital, yesterday.
Around 11 Customs officers took part in the operation. A local aged 24, who was believed to have been involved in the possession of the contraband, was detained for further investigation, and will be charged under Chapter 146 under Excise Order 2006.
The successful raid was the result of tough surveillance work conducted by the Enforcement Section of the Royal Customs and Excise Department. The Royal Customs and Excise Department has once again urged members of the public to report any smuggling activities through the Customs hotline of 8714422 or 2382422. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
