Fined For Smuggling Cigarettes 86 Alcohol
Bandar Seri Begawan - A Malaysian man was fined B$3,000, or to serve three months' imprisonment in default, by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court yesterday, after he pleaded guilty to concealing several packets of cigarettes and cans of beer in his car to be smuggled into Brunei.
Chieng Huat Song, 42, who works for Syarikat Kimpal Jaya Sdn Bhd as a house window frame maker, paid the fine yesterday. The defendant was caught attempting to bring in 20 cartons of "Star Mild" cigarettes, 10 cartons of "Gudang Garam" cigarettes, a bottle of Smirnoff Vodka and 12 cans of Tiger Beer.
The Royal Customs and Excise Department Prosecuting Officer said all the uncustomed goods were found hidden in various parts of the car that the defendant drove, by a Customs officer on duty at the Kuala Lurah Customs Control Post.
The court yesterday ordered for the uncustomed goods worth B$246 to be forfeited to the state and the car to be returned. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
