Royalty Joins Concert For A Cause

Bandar Seri Begawan - Bruneians came in full force to support a charity concert to raise funds for the poor at the Jerudong Amphitheatre last night.
The concert, organised by an NGO 'Sounds of Hope' (SOH), in aid of the Families in Poverty Fund, saw not only people from all walks of life but also members of the royal family. His Royal Highness Prince Haji 'Abdul 'Azim, as the guest of honour, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen were also present to lend their moral support to the cause and encourage the young performers.
The event began on a high note as local upcoming singer Hill sang a composition of HRH Prince Haji 'Abdul 'Azim entitled "Change". As the evening progressed, Brunei's local talent entertained the audience with songs and performances.
The earnings from the ticket sales would go to the Women's Business Councils-Sound of Hope (WBC-SOH) Families in Poverty Fund. What began as visits to some poor families sometime in March by Amalina Abdullah, SOH team leader for Youth Volunteer Network against Poverty and her friends, has created a ripple effect with more and more joining the cause.
President of Women's Business Council (WBC), Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah Hj Zakiah, in her welcome address briefed the mission of Sounds of Hope, which aims to achieve the mission of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to achieve "zero poverty by 2035".
"The WBC has been actively pursuing a number of social entrepreneurial activities that have enabled our group members to help the less fortunate," she added. Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah also spoke of the various programmes being undertaken by the WBC-SOH to ameliorate poverty, which include adopting a poor family. sponsoring a child's education sponsoring a training programme for unskilled women and microcredit programmes for unemployed women.
HRH Prince 'Abdul 'Azim in his sabda lauded the WBCSOH efforts and initiative "in creating awareness of the plight of members of our communities who are less unfortunate."
The event also saw the presentation of donation worth $28,400 to the WBC-SOH Families in Poverty Fund from Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam Berhad (BIBD) by Hjh Nurul Akmar Hj Jaafar, head of sales and distribution channel.
The consumer banking division (donated $25,400) and Darussalam Holdings (donated $3,000) presented by its managing director, Hj Mahmud Hj Mohamad.
