Jerudong Park: Don't Promote Something If They Don't Exist

I am embarrassed when i read the Brunei year book especially on Jerudong Park. Why are we promoting something which is now in chaos and disarray? Jerudong Park? a thrilling ride?

In the past...yes, but how about the present. Jerudong Park is one of Brunei's main attractions in the past but not now. When I read the Brunei Year Book every year, this issue exist and every time I saw this, I really want to hide my self. I'm proud of Kampong Ayer, being the largest water village in the world but how about the waste floating on the water?

Not too long ago, the authorities said that it pick up to 50 MILLIONS plastic bags and that was in February I think. Now, it is October and maybe the amount of waste has doubled. Venice of the east is something that I really proud off but the waste is truly an embarrassment. What will the tourist say when all we've promoted ‘INDAH KHABAR DARIPADA RUPA'?

I agree, the tourist books and maps are so out of date, they seem to talking about another country.
What about Tutong? Have you seen how dirty, polluted and crumbling it is on the beach....The Famous Spit!
It is so sad to see the waste, rubbish and mess that people leave all over the place.
Broken bottles on the beach, plastic bags, plastio bottles etc. Is the respect we have for our beautiful country?

Totally Agree With U

It's not only in the yearbook that they advertise Jerudong Park, they even advertise on the plane. They should try and change their advert. Put it back on once Jerudong Park is back in shape and attract locals and visitors. It is a disappointment for tourist and embarrassment to us for not being to show the reality of what we have in Brunei.

a mistake
written by AA , October 03, 2009
It was a mistake that they made it free at first when it's opened. Sudah kana suruh bayar, thats when people started not to come. So bila nada duit masuk, maintenance kurang, hence the state it is now.

I feel sorry looking at it now. I remembered when I was little and my parents always bring me to JP, such good memories but now. looking at JP, i feel really sad.

If many people come to JP and make it lively as before, how good it will be.

Potential down the drain
written by Anon , October 03, 2009
It could have been a big attractor of tourists within the SEA region since there isn't such a grand thing around.

A pity, when it was opened it was free as alot of things in Brunei. They got used to that, and when a fee was charge (which would be to maintain what you've got, face it there is no free things in this world, you shouldn't get used to someone else feeding you) everyone stopped going.

The culture here has let to a spiral of doom. Everything is provided for, and relying on the good will of other people. They lack back bone. The root to the downfall of the once awesome Jerudong Park is testament to this.

But I digress... it shouldn't be promoted anymore. Apart from the Ampitheatre that is used occasionally.

We miss JP
written by Tourism lover , October 03, 2009
Yeap i agree. I mean, have they (those who promote JP) been to JP recently? It's practically dead. Nada papa lagikan dibanggakan JP atu. Even the kids now are not thrilled to go to JP. Kalau dulu, tiap-tiap minggu rasanya kan bawa kanak-kanak ke sana. But now? Where are the rides? Rides yang adapun, is it well maintained?

on waste.
written by ari , October 04, 2009
you know, they can be pulling up a million pieces of rubbish from the river but nothing is ever going to change if people CONTINUE dumping their trash in the river.
They just need to do what Singapore has done, i.e to implement the harshest fines on offenders.

I totally agree with you. Last time I check one of the booklet from tourism, its show picture of pusing lagi @ JP. This ride is already long gone, and I m wonder kenapa some of the ride dijual. They give reasons of the high maintenance.. Aiyoo...not a good one meh. We can always maintain it if we can attract more tourist bah... Now our JP is like the dead park.. A place for Adams family... smilies/grin.gif

somebody has to save JP
written by right! , October 09, 2009
JP used to be our proud but now?? it actually make us embarrassing...

when tourist come to brunei and ask you... where can i have some fun here?

what would you answer??

i bet that 90% of you would probably say "the mall gadong"

i just think that somebody need to put some action onto it...

where's the dignity? every good country should have a park where the people can actually go every weekends or holidays... and for the tourist to have some fun until late night instead of staying in the hotel watch TV while the income can gain from the JP instead...

as most of you know that oil and gas won't last long... and we seriously need to speed up our progress on tourism...

hmmm..
written by kidguy , October 19, 2009
hmmm.. what if jerudong park were to be reinvented into just a park.. discard the amusement park theme. you know, like central park in NY. i bet it'll be quite popular especially for tourists. it'll be easier to maintain and ofcourse, cheaper.
