Promoting Brunei-Korea Cultural Ties

Bandar Seri Begawan - Nineteen Korean folk dancers and 10 break-dancers are arriving in Brunei this evening from Kota Kinabalu to perform in a 90-minute cultural extravaganza tomorrow in Seria and Bandar Seri Begawan.

"The performances are part of the Brunei-Korea cultural exchange programme," said Mr II Park, Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Korean Embassy in Brunei.

"Korean movies, soap operas, and food are gaining more popularity. Our government aims to promote a friendly atmosphere in cultural exchange," Mr Park said.

The Korean folk dance troupe, Korea House, and B-Boys Breakout, will be performing tomorrow, Monday, Sept 29 at the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre in Seria at 6 45pm and at the Rizqun Hotel in Gadong at 8pm.

This event is organised by Pan Bright Travel Service, Korea Tourism Organisation Kuala Lumpur, Korea Embassy in Brunei and LG Electronics. Limited free tickets are available at Pan Bright Travel

The Korea House is a private residence of a royal subject during the five-century old Joseun (Chosun) Dynasty, the last royal, imperial and longest reigning Confucian dynasty that ended in 1910.

The folk dancers will be performing the Bongsan mask dance, the exorcism dance, the fan dance, long epic song, Korean circle dance and the drum dance, as music is played from four instruments.

During the interlude performance in the Korean House's main yard, visitors can enjoy solo flute playing the exorcism dance and the drum dance.

Visitors can go to the folk village and enjoy a buffet or traditional Korean gourmet at the Korea House restaurant, which features folk dance performances.

The traditional food served at the Korea House is based on royal court food of the Josean Dynasty. Table manners, kitchen utensils, ancestral rites, table setting method and names and ingredients of food are recorded in the literature of Royal Court Food Suggestion and True Record of Dynasty.

Another performance is the B-Boys Breakout, a dashing prison story of clumsy prisoners longing for freedom that will be presented by a Korean break-dancing team for the I Love Korea Festival in Brunei.

Featuring a cast of nurses and break dancing villains in the craziest jail break of all time, it will feature top quality performers including Korea's leading B-Boys.

They include Drifters crew (Battle of the Year 2006 finalists), Gamblers (crew of the Year 2006 finalists) and Maximum crew.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
