Bandar Seri Begawan - His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tade and Her Royal Highness Pg Anak Isteri Pg Anak Hjh Zariah, have arrived in New York to attend the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday.

Accompanying Their Royal Highnesses was Her Royal Highness Princess Hjh Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade issued yesterday.

HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and HRH Pg Anak Isteri Pg Anak Hjh Zariah attended a reception hosted by President Barack Obama of the US and his wife Michelle Obama.

Among the topics addressed at the UN General Assembly was nuclear proliferation, climate change, the world economic crisis and poverty.

His Royal Highness was also expected to speak at the UN General Assembly. The general assembly comprises 192 members of the United Nations.

The annual assembly occupies a central position as the chief deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the United Nations.

It also plays a significant role in the process of standard-setting and the codification of international law.

The meeting, which formally opened on Sept 15, had two general debate sessions on Sept 23-26 and Sept 28-30.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
