Bandar Seri Begawan - A Three-Year-Old girl was pronounced dead at a hospital yesterday after she slipped and drowned, while walking alone at a jetty in Kampong Ayer's Kg Bendahara Lama.

Dyg Fatimah Azahara Hj Mohd Azmi drowned near her residence after walking alone from her grandmother's nearby residence, according to officials.

Assistant Officer Ghapar Damong Hj Maiden from the Sg Lampai Fire and Rescue Marine Unit said a team of four fire personnel were dispatched to search for the missing girl at the area.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the emergency call was made to the hotline at 10:43am.

Upon arrival, the authorities were informed by the victim's parents that she slipped and fell into the river near their home.

Upon arrival at the scene, the fire and rescue personnel conducted their search operation for the missing girl with traditional rescue equipment.

"With the help of residents, the body of the three-year-old was found at 11:02am below the verandah of a resident's house not too far away,' said Ghapar Damong.

Dyg Fatimah Azahara was immediately rushed to the hospital's jetty by speedboat where paramedics were also present to attend to the girl.

Hj Jeffrey Hj Ali, a neighbour, said the incident began in the morning when he and residents heard screams of panic and shouting from the missing girl's parents.

"In the midst of the panic, other neighbours rushed to grab their boats to conduct a search for the girl who had slipped and fallen into the river," said Hj Jeffrey.

During the search, residents were seen jumping into the water to search for the girl. According to a relative of the victim, the three-year-old girl was returning home from a visit to her grandmother's house.
