Outgoing Ambassador Hosted To Farewell Luncheon

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BSB) yesterday hosted a farewell luncheon for outgoing Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Hashimoto Itsuo at Dynasty Restaurant.

Chinese Chamber of Commerce President Dr Chan Sui Kiat and committee members were on hand to welcome Hashimoto Hsu. In his remarks, the outgoing ambassador lauded the important role the Chinese community has played in contributing to the economy of Brunei Dannsalam.

"Although Brunei is a small country, it is a very peaceful and stable nation. Its people lived in harmony and prosperity.

"The Chinese business community, particularly members of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BSB), plays a vital role by continuously supporting and contributing to the country in further developing the nation's economy.

"I sincerely hope that the support will continue and that Brunei - with cooperation from Japan - will continue to progress further," he added.

He also conveyed his appreciation to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce for hosting the farewell luncheon and for the support/friendship that has been forged with the Japanese Embassy.

Meanwhile, in a separate speech, Dr Chan Sui Kiat noted that relations between Brunei and Japan has reached a new height, marked by the laying of foundation for the new Photosolviac Solar Power Plant, a project under His Majesty's government and Japan's Mitsubishi Corp.

Dr Chan also touched on efforts by the Japanese government in attracting local students to study in Japan by offering numerous scholarships, as well as the youth exchange (Ship for South East Asian Youth Programme) which allows participants to better understand the culture of both nations.
