JPMC holds FACE Seminar For Dentists

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) yesterday held its first medical seminar, "FACE (For the Advancement of Continuing Education) Dental Update 2009", at the medical centre's Continuing Medical Education (CME) room.

On hand to present the lectures to over 70 dental practitioners were invited speakers Dr Patrick Tseng Seng Kwong, Dr James Sunny, Dr Kok Ei Chuen and Dr T Devarajan.

Dr Tseng, senior consultant endodontist at Singapore National University Hospital, spoke on "Root Canal Treatment: Assessment of Success and Failure"; Dr Sunny, JPMC orthodontist, presented a paper on "Anomalies of Maxillary Canine Eruption: Orthodontic Intervention"; Dr Kok, pedodontic head at National Dental Centre, spoke on "Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation (M1TI): Clinical Presentation, Aetiology and Management"; and Dr Deverajan, JPMC medical officer presented a paper on "Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice".

JPMC Marketing and Communications Manager Sures Muniandy said the seminar was the first of many large-scale events organised by JPMC.

"In total, there are less than 70 dentists practising in Brunei; a relatively small community, I must say. This event is important to provide them an opportunity to get together, share ideas and skills, and eventually improve the quality and service delivery to patients."

Following the seminar, the delegates were taken on a tour around the medical centre, where they were introduced to state-of-art medical equipment used in dental practice.

Among them was the Picasso TRIO, which is capable of providing the most efficient dental CT (including 3D software), digital panoramic and cephalometric systems while ensuring effective and reliable implant surgery.

Meanwhile, JPMC, in a press release, said the medical centre has three in-house dental specialists and four visiting consultants, covering most of the specialities such as endodontics, prosthodontics, orthodontics, implantology, oral surgery and periodontics.
