Donation Of 2 Photo-Story Books On Historic Lecture
Bandar Seri Begawan - To commemorate the historic Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien (SOAS) Memorial Lecture held in conjunction with the National Day Silver Jubilee, two photo-story books containing pictures taken of that day were donated to two agencies at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (SHHB) headquarters yesterday.
Published by York Imaging Sdn Bhd, the books were donated to the two agencies that had a major role in the event, namely Yayasan SHHB and the Singapore High Commission for inviting Singapore's Minister Mentor, Dato Leila Mama Lee Kuan Yew to host and deliver a lecture at the event.
Presenting the donations on behalf of York Imaging was its director, Vincent Tan who handed the books to the managing director of Yayasan SHIM, Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hashim Hj Daud and Singapore's Acting High Commissioner, K R Nithianandum. Also at the ceremony were senior officials from Yayasan SHHB and the Singapore High Commission.
Yayasan SHHB is a non-government organisation that works continuously to organise various projects and activities in line with the policies and objectives of its establishment both independently or through the cooperation of its strategic partners.
The SOAS Memorial Lecture, held for the first time on February 25 this year, represents an academic programme organised by Yayasan SHHB as a contribution in the field of education to increase and expand knowledge amongst Brunei's community.
The event was also jointly organised by Universiti Brunei Darussalam, who acted as a strategic partner for the foundation in developing several programmes in line with the foundation's aim of fostering education. The launching of the memorial lecture was also supported by various agencies, particularly the Singapore High Commission.
Officiating the launching ceremony of the lecture was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.
The memorial lecture is planned to be a yearly event that aims to promote and nurture knowledge to all and provide residents with the opportunity to listen to intellectuals ranging from world leaders, academias and Nobel Laureates.
In his speech, attended by about 3,000 guests at the International Convention Centre, Lee Kuan Yew highlighted the great influence and impact that the Architect of Modern Brunei, Sultan Hj Omar 'Ali Saifuddien had in developing and turning the country into what it is now.
