Bandar Seri Begawan - Dana Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah for orphans received B$15,400 in donations at a handing over ceremony yesterday held at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah head office in Kumbang Pasang.

Present to receive the donation was Dato Paduka Haji Ali Hashim bin Haji Daud, the Chief Executive Officer of DANA.

Awg Haji Zulkiflee bin Hj Puteh, chairman of Jawatan Kuasa Pemimpin Sekolah Sekolah Ugama (JKPSSU) Brunei II, presented a donation of B$10,400 from the recent proceeds of a walkathon organised by the committee of JKPSSU Brunei II.

According to the committee, the donation was part of the contribution made during the walkathon participated by 30 religious schools in Brunei II. The aim of the initiative was to encourage and support students to be involved in more voluntary and community events. Five per cent of the proceeds were also donated to SMARTER Brunei prior to yesterday's ceremony.

"We (committee) would like to thank members of the public especially parents and private bodies that have contributed during the walkathon and for their cooperation in making the event successful," said Awg Haji Zulkiflee.

Meanwhile, the Royal Customs and Excise Department Sports and Welfare Body also made a contribution amounting to B$3,000. The donation was part of a contribution collected from a golf tournament held recently.

Awg Haji Kamsani bin Haji Mohd Hassan, Chairman of the Royal Customs and Excise Department Sports and Welfare Body Charity Golf Tournament, was present to hand over the donation.

Also contributing during yesterday's ceremony was Michael Chen KS, Managing Director of AST Enterprise, which handed over a personal donation of B$2, 000 to DANA.

During an interview with the Bulletin, Mr Chen said that the donation is a way for him to give back to society. "What goes around comes around," he said before adding, "if we do good deeds, you'll be rewarded equally."

Mr Chen also encouraged other organisations and individuals to contribute to DANA or other organisations, such as Pusat Ehsan or the Children Development Centre (CDC).

Also in attendance to witness the event were assistant managing directors and officers of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
