Marine Dept Warns Boat Operators, Kg Ayer Residents Of High Tide
The Department reminded motorboat drivers, including those operating the passenger speedboats from Bandar Seri Begawan to Bangar Town, to drive with extra care. Water taxi drivers are also requested to drive slower than usual when going past houses in Kampong Ayer during high tide. River users are also advised to be on the lookout for driftwood after heavy rain and, if possible, to avoid travelling at times of poor visibility such as during heavy downpours.
According to the Marine Department, ship captains must sound their horns in areas where visibility is reduced due to rain. They are also reminded to travel slowly on the water's edge in village areas, and to switch on their navigation lights.
People residing on the riverbanks are also asked to be constantly cautious and mindful of the possibility of flooding, especially if the rain occurs during high tide.
Kampong Ayer residents are also advised to be vigilant with their family members, particularly children playing on small wooden bridges and on the riverbanks.
