Do Not Turn Royal Birthday Joy Into A Media Circus, His Majesty Warns

Nor Is It A Charity Lobby, He adds

Breaking News:

Bandar Seri Begawan - Do not make the coming Royal Birthday celebrations on July 15 here a media circus or a charity lobby, His Majesty has decreed.

It should not be turned into a publicity stunt whereby top government servants who are members of the celebration committee turn up before television cameras, and appear in newspapers and in the media seen receiving large donations with much fanfare from the donors, especially the larger companies.

Are they all sincere or on the other hand forced to donate? That had to be looked into and investigated and solved, the monarch stated. He did not favour excessive lobbying to celebrate the event.

He did not wish this donation syndrome to become a routine trend each year. He did not want the event to become a charity attraction to attract donations.

Aren't they enough funds? How big and merrier do you want it to be? His Majesty is not asking you to waste money? He doesn't want a big show. What is important is the celebration to run smoothly, the ruler said.

But now it has become excessive doing the large projects and doing them first and paying for it later.

When a project is under way the organization will ask for payment. But some do not pay and in the end the government is asked to pay. What sort of disaster is this?

Disasters burden the government and consequently the people, the ruler warned.

However he thanked all concerned for their efforts to making the celebration a success. Only that he was against excesses. He realised that public and the people participated and he thanked them but he was concerned with the activities of some government officials.

He said he was against bringing hardship on the people.

His Majesty was speaking at the briefing of the National Disaster Centre briefing yesterday.

I am so grateful and happy to have such a Great, humble, caring, and kind Sultan.
We all should be so grateful, let us not ask what our Sultan can do for us, but what we can do for our Sultan.
We Bruneians are so lucky, no Royalty in worldwide history has ever cared so much and done so much for us like what our Sultan has.
Long live our Sultan !

Thank you HM!

Long live the King! Having experienced with getting government officials literally demanding money from my company before for HM's birthday celebration felt as though as we were being robbed every year. Yes, we do need to contribute but the way some officials demand the money was like loan sharks redeeming their loan. And the worst part is they misuse their positions as government officials using HM's name in vain that if we don't, there will be 'issues' in the future. While all that maybe going on, keep in mind some of the monetary fund may go into their own pockets!

With HM's titah, i am very sure a lot of the private companies will feel like a burden has been lifted off their shoulders dealing with all these begging of monies for HM's celebration. Additionally, it will be a major breakthrough for the country if the head of government officials clean up their act and not put on a 'show' for HM only in front of the camera / news. It's time Brunei needs to move forward with other countries.

As a citizen of Brunei, i am extremely proud that we indeed have a caring Sultan who deeply cares about his people. Long live His Majesty. May Allah continue to shower his love and blessings on our king and our country.

Ministry of Religious Affairs and Mufti's Office
written by Ahmadi Hassan , July 14, 2009
I am glad we always start the celebration of HM's birthday by the reading of surah Yaasin and solat jemaah. However I am sad to notice how the surah Yaasin booklets which is part of the holy al quran were put and left on the floor, clearly visible from the TV screen due to our ignorance.

Al Quran must always be kept above the waist to avoid Allah's fury. I hope an authority within the MORA or a fatwa from Mufti's office can be issued to address and guide our muslim brothers and sisters.

May Allah bless His Majesty, Brunei Darussalam and us all.
