Some Government Servants ‘Robots' His Majesty Says
Some Government Servants ‘Robots' His Majesty Says
Briefing at Disaster Centre
BREAKING NEWS:
Bandar Seri Begawan - In a hard hitting Royal message clearly displeased with the performance of some of his top civil servants the Brunei ruler called their attitude robotic.
They failed to take necessary decisions when mandated to do so, he charged.
In his wide ranging 35-minute royal briefing he also questioned the need for his ministers and deputy ministers to bring large entourage with them to trips abroad.
Perhaps, he feels, it is for their personal benefit. Is that a good idea? He asked. The monarch did not think so. On the other hand a junior officer often travelled alone. Even the embassy in that country would not know about his trip. Is that wise, the ruler asked. Who is going to help him in case of trouble? Being not concerned about the lower rank is not the mark of a good leader.
Some civil servants lack commonsense and are without initiative. All the time they have to be told what to do, the monarch declared in admonishing them.
If they are not told what to do then they would not do anything at all even though they had the mandate to make suitable decisions and take necessary steps that had to do with the safety and the welfare of their officers, the ruler added.
He took the spread of the H1N1 pandemic in the country as an example whereby the heads of departments' defiance in not having the commonsense, ignoring the guidelines set by the Health Ministry, as they continued sending officers abroad.
They were waiting for the directive from the Prime Minister's office on July 7 telling them what to do, the monarch said. But there were some department heads that had the wisdom in not sending their people abroad.
The Brunei ruler was speaking at a briefing of the National Management Disaster Centre in Berakas. He told them to be ready at all times and be on the look out for any potential national disasters such as terrorism, tsunamis or earthquakes.
There have been recently floods, landslides and swine flu pandemic. And these have affected the social activities and resulted in the suspension of the Royal Birthday Celebrations, the ruler told them.

Just to point out... During the flood last time... takes a few days to respond then too late.. DISASTER!!! No power, No communication... houses lost!... Now H1N1.... Breaking 300 cases soon...
Dont be afraid to make decision immediately. Learn from mistake... don't learn when its already too late... Now i'm embarrassed that our country is one of the H1N1 biggest impact area! Its the fact. Thermometer and sanitizer... mana tia...? Habis? solution... wakil negara tani.... call up the companies overseas... duit emergency kena peruntukan ada... make decision... buy it!. Dont go through Channel masa distribution.... i say it out loud! Kids and Orang Emas di utamakan....! jgn buang masa.... National Emergency...!!! Buat tia sebelum reach 1000... I wish all this disaster never happen! BAHAPA TIA DURANG!

This is one would say a ' kick on their own ' . WOuld they be improving their acts and behaviour in maintaining administration and public services at the level they should be ? Yes they Should!
A serious matter this is, even HM would have to interfere of the civil servants discrepency in their job or overall Administration. And we thought they are the qualified individual being chosen to take their position and job. I hope they realise who is suppose to be qualified now in running the government and agencies or even departments to do a JOB properly.

It is a wake up call for every single Bruneians...This is especially for the Government servants from top to bottom. We know recently it was mentioned that missmanagment costs millions and this is a sad thing. I hope those in the managment or so call manager open their eyes and start to manage. That is expected out of u. Being in management ones should know the art to manage and PLAN AHEAD. BUT this will only happen if u can predict what will b expected out the situation at present.....BUKAN menunggu HM betitah then baru tengadahh...This is ur obligation as people in the management..To the subordinates in the Government servant (not all) start to improve on ur attitude towards ur work, HM Government pay us salary so that we can give n this is will be achieved if ones has the righ attitude towards their work...Islam I believe or any other religions stress on this..The money u gain will b HARAM if ur attitude on ur work is wrong...

With the growing of internet users among our youngsters, only pelajaran "UGAMA" can help them with regards to their moral, habit and attitude ...

This is what people like to say "nah.. kana sebigi.." And thats the truth..
Even though i am not employed under the government, I can see, hear and feel how the system runs.. And we all know that it's a little bit off pace and needs some improvements. But the only thing that stops us is 'fear'.. And now My King.. Your King just had enough..
come on.. How many times have we heard from friends and relitives about them not being happy by how things are so slow.. and everytime we want an answer it's always, apa kata org?? "masih dalam process..." but until when are we going to improve on that type of attitude? The HM's absalutely 100% correct on reminding all of us to have a more "PROACTIVE" attitude.. And to that, my only theory is that, it's not for only those people or departments.. BUT TO ALL OF US.. Government or non-government workers.. Top Officials or low ranked employees..
On top of all that, i really hope what HM has let out (in frustration or not?).. That we can do our best in giving back HM's kindness..
Insha'Allah

congratulations! as many have said, it shouldve been done earlier. personally, ive realized the changes of HM's actions/decisions towards the national well-being just few years ago. its a good change though. not only for the locals but those who are staying in Brunei.
not every top government servant are criticised for all their actions. some or rather few, are good bunch of people. but one have to bear in mind that some were influence by their bosses as well. its either u do it for his personal interest or serve the King and its people for everyones' interest.
many of us know how to criticise and all but there is still a need of medium to convey our message.
Daulat Kebawah Duli Tuan Patik.
