Public Praise Police For Smooth Traffic
Bandar Seri Begawan - The public yesterday applauded the Royal Brunei Police Force (REPF) Investigation and Traffic Control Department for their efforts to maintain smooth flow of traffic during the voting period which saw thousands of Indonesian nationals crowding the streets.
Fydah Ramlee, a resident of Sg Hancing, said that she was shocked to wake up to a crowd of people, buses and the presence of the police in the morning near her house.
"T came to know that voting for Indonesian presidential election was taking place through a neighbour on the way out of the driveway who had earlier been informed by the authorities of the event," she said.
She thanked authorities for controlling the traffic flow efficiently in the area despite heavy congestion which made it possible for her to pass through the area without any problem.
During the voting, public buses transporting passengers were also observed by The Brunei Times in front of the Indonesian Embassy. There the police had set up a designated drop off point for passengers.
Wasik Cangaji, an Indonesian worker, who came early in the morning to cast his vote, said he used the public bus instead of carpooling with his colleagues.
He said using public transport for such events was the best option as it helps in reducing traffic congestion. 'Besides, it is very difficult to find parking space. So he and his friends decided to take the public bus," pointed out Wasik.
He pointed out a signboard bearing the "no parking" logo that was placed along the roadside to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during peak hours.
A government worker, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that various events held by the embassy would usually cause congestion and without police enforcement the problem can aggravate and resulted in traffic jam.
However, this time the police on duty controlled the traffic and there was no congestion.
