Brunei And Saudi Arabia Sign New Air Services Arrangement

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Darussalam and Saudi Arabia enhanced air transport cooperation with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)-on new air services arrangement between the two countries. The Air Services Agreement enhances the one which was signed between the two countries on February 9, 1992 in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The signing of the MoU between Brunei Darussalam and Saudi Arabia took place in the city of Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia yesterday.

Signing on behalf of the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was Awg Haji Alaihuddin bin POKDG Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Awg Haji Mohd Taha, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications, while representing the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was Eng Abdullah MN Rehaimi, the President for the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).

The MoU amends and updates the existing bilateral Air Services Agreement pertaining to multi-designation of airlines, increase weekly frequencies, aviation safety, route schedule and also the abolishment of any commercial arrangements.

The MoU provisionally permits the designated airlines of both countries to provide air services between Bandar Seri Begawan and Jeddah/ Riyadh ie the increase of frequency from a two up to 14 round trip weekly passenger flights; and the grant of cargo service operation up to seven round trip weekly cargo flights. In addition to this, the Saudi side also offers to Royal Brunei Airlines unlimited access to Dammam (Saudi Arabia) in accordance with the open sky policy arrangement.

For better utilisation of market access and serving the market demand, the designated airlines from both countries could mutually benefit from this by entering commercial marketing alliance arrangements, including third party code-sharing operations for both passengers and cargo services.
