This is a follow-up of all the TV station's story on Mentos and Diet Coke. Don't mix these two either, they cause a chemical reaction (explosion) in the stomach, it's not only Mentos but also any Mint products. Mint Life Savers, Tic Tac's, Cool Mint's, etc, the Mint is not the culprit here but the Aspartame in the Diet Drinks, 951 on the label, also avoid 950 Acelsultame F (same thing). Most European countries have forbidden the Importing and use in their Country of Aspartame including all makes of Saccharin, example Equal, Nutra-Sweet, Spoonful & Diet Drinks, including 6,000 consumer Good's and Beverages, sold on the Supermarket shelves . this ban affect's all use of this product in any type o consumable infringement and will carry penalties that go from 9.000 euros to 90,000 Euros. Mexico is also considering banning all 6,000 products of Aspartame on its Supermarket shelves.

In Mexico Aspartame is known as Rumsfeld's Disease, after George Bush's mate Donald Rumsfeld. The Nutra-Sweet company and Searle are owned by Monsanto who appointed Rumsfeld as their General Manager, so they could use his clout with Parliament to get this Deadly Poison passed by the FDA and boost their sales of Aspartame. Avoid all Toothpastes made in China , especially Colgate's they contain Ethylene Glycol.. This is an Anti-Freezing agent, Highly Toxic and even fatal -- it destroys the Liver, Kidney, Lung, Blood Cells, Heart and the Nervous System.

It is also in some Mouth Washes, Make-up, Aftershave, Baby Powder and Wipes, Shampoo, and Deodorants. Avoid Smarties. They contain almost every Toxic artificial colour on the market. The worst are 102, 104, and the worst of all 110 Carcinogenic, 124 undesirable, 127 Carcinogenic 128 Extreme Caution, 129,131, and 133 are also carcinogenic. To top it off Smarties are not even made of Chocolate (neither are Tim Tam's). Synthetic Chocolate has non-nutritional food value whatsoever. Read your labels -- it may one day save your life.

Aspartame was banned in Romania because it caused cancer. It's not banned in Europe. There have been efforts in the UK Parliament. Food Standards is now doing a study on aspartame and the European Food Safety Authority is doing a review.

We tried to get banned in New Mexico and Hawaii but have not been successful so far. I know nothing about any efforts in New Mexico. Dr. H. J. Roberts wrote Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic, www.sunsentpress.com which is the medical text. We do many times call it Rumsfeld's Plague. In the movie Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World, www.soundandfury.tv James Turner, Atty, discusses how Rumsfeld got aspartame approved when the FDA revoked the petition for approval.

Acesulfame potassium is not aspartame. However in original studies it caused cancer and leukemia so should not be used.

Not an Urban Legend

Wow.. I actually googled before making any comments here and I am shocked by how much we are uninformed about this matter. It happened like way back in 2006!!!!

From my observation, the locals should be doing something about it. I mean, to reduce the consumption especially. After reading up, it is stated that although alcohol is toxic, the levels do not reach as high as benzene and at the rate we consume soft drinks, seriously, it is indeed time for a review.

Of course, if you do not drink more soft drinks than water, I suppose it is not a huge concern. But look around and do you see young children holding tight on their tins and bottles with the infamous soft drinks label? In fact I can safely say that the teenagers nowadays rely on carbonated drinks as their source of fluid and with this, I doubt that they will believe that it is true. As usual, being ignorant.

I have yet to look up on a particular product which is the small bottled "Vitamin C" sold on the shelfs of the drinks section. That would have the highest level of Vitamin C and I just wonder if they use the same preservative as other soft drinks.

Thanks so much to the person who posted this. This is indeed an invaluable piece of information.

This long message facts is in fact a total hoax. Here I give my objections.

This is a deterrent and a hoax that amounted mostly untrue and unaudited information. For several years Smarties used the natural color when producing candies. There is no evidence of the fact that aspartate, in the prescribed quantities allowed, dangerous to health. Statements about the explosive reaction diet Cola and Mentos candies are true, but does not represent a real danger because it is not a real explosion, or the reaction in the stomach, but in the mouth. This means that the product came out easily from the body and would not have caused him harm. In addition, there are no recorded case of suffering in this way. True information about toxic toothpaste from China, but it is an obsolete case. The truth is that there are investigations by which vitamin C in combination with carbonated drinks can lead to the creation of cancerogenic circuit in an organism. This shaped the messages that contain false information spread cause irrational panic. Yet one should not ignore the content of foods that can consume.

Errr, baru kamu tah kah? That's the reason why there's an upsurge case of cancer here in Brunei. This year alone 6 friends of mine died of cancer. And only one of them are overweight. But the thing is its very difficult to avoid caricinogens. For example, staring at computer right now could cause a chemical effect in your retina thanks to the the radiation of the screen. The retina produces free radicals which ultimately becomes caricinogens and if not careful with your diet will cause cancer of the retina.

Consumption of cola and mentos won't cause explosion in the stomach

Discovery Channel's Mythbusters actually tried many experiments involving the combination of Mentos and coke and one of them was consuming coke and Mentos. In spite of some drama in the build-up, there was NO explosion in the stomach. This is because the active ingredients found in the outer coating of the Mentos which would have caused fizzing as seen in bottles, have already been dissolved.

They found that tiny craters on the surface of the Minted Mentos caused the sudden release of carbon dioxide, not primarily due to the reaction of gum arabic (the ingredient in Mentos) with carbonated water (in that case, cola). They tried the same combination with a smooth surface Mentos (usually not minted) and it did not cause any reaction.

Here's a snippet of that footage from Discovery Channel's Mythbusters. If possible, watch the whole episode for a delightful fountain/geyser show/montage that they put up, and the rockets made from the coke bottles.
