Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Darussalam was among the countries honoured at this year's Gourmand World Cookbook Awards ceremony, which was held at the historic Comedic Francaise theatre in Paris.

For the first time ever, the Sultanate won the "Special Award of the Jury" in 14th Gourmand World Cookbook Awards for RBC's (Royal Brunei Catering) collection of recipes Volume Two.

The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications, Awang Haft Alai hod-din bin Pehin Orang Kaya Di-gadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Awg Hj Mohd Taha, who is also the Chairman of RBC, recently attended an event at Royal Brunei Catering to celebrate Brunei's achievement in the culinary world.

According to the Acting General Manager of RBC, Hj Omar Ali bin Hj Mohd Daud, this award has placed Brunei, particularly RBC, the Language & Literature Bureau and the State Mufti Department, on the world map for demonstrating professionalism in cookery and publications.

This international recognition also means that the second volume of our recipes is one of the best cookbooks in the world, he added.

Hj Omar said the excellent photography and presentations, as well as the uniqueness in bringing the halal concepts for cooking, drew the attention of the four-member jury, comprising experts from Europe and America.

During the event to celebrate Brunei's success, the Acting General Manager of RBC handed over "special award programme" books to Dato Paduka Ahmad Bukhari bin Pehin Siraja Khatib Hj Abu Hanifah, the Administrative Director at the State Mufti Department, and Dyg Nortijah binti Hj Mohd Hassan, a Senior Language Officer from the Language & Literature Bureau.
