Sign Language Books Now Available In All Districts

Bandar Seri Begawan - Members of the public who are interested to learn sign language can purchase the Sign Language Guide Book priced at $12 each.

With a limited edition of 3000 printed copies only, the books are available in both languages of Malay and English.

All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Association of the Hearing Impaired Negara Brunei Darussalam.

The books are available in Pusat Perkembangan Kanak-Kanak (CDC) at the Hearing Impaired Educational Clinic, RIPAS Hospital at the Speech And Language Therapy Clinic, the Unit Audiology, the ORL Department, and at the Administration Block of RIPAS Hospital.

Meanwhile, for the Kuala Belait District, it can be obtained in Sufi Seri Begawan Hospital at the ENT Clinic and Speech & Language Therapy Clinic. In the Tutong District, the books are available in PMMPHAMB Hospital at the Occupational Therapy Department, Pediatric Ward whilst for the Temburong District, it can be obtained from PIHM Hospital at Zaiton Haji Abdullah and Playgroup Temburong.

The Sign Language Guide Book is designed for those who need to communicate using the sign language. It is a worldwide language, which could be used to benefit the entire population. The level of complexity of the language used can be adopted to suit all age groups in multinational cultures.

It is the first edition designed to help Bruneians and it is hoped that further editions will develop when the need arises. Sign language is a dynamic way of communication that should be encouraged to give those with special needs a voice. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
