Asean Newsmaker Project A Success In Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Deputy Permanent Secretary (Corporate Services) of Educations, Dyg Hjh Norjum Hj Mohd Yussop, presented prizes to the winners of the "Asean NewsMaker Project" during a ceremony at the Seameo Voctech yesterday.

Participants were asked to make short video clips on various topics to promote Brunei Darussalam using the "Asean NewsMaker Project" software.

The top three winners were Nur Farah Nasuha Othman of Sayyidina Hussain Secondary School, Md Nabil Md Fauzi of Lumut Primary School and Md Amir Salman Md Azman of Ahmad Tajuddin Primary School.

Each team received a Creative Vado (video recorder), two digital photo key-chains and two units of NewsMaker software with accessories.

Some 20 primary and secondary schools in Brunei were selected to participate in the Asean NewsMaker Project.

The project is endorsed by the Asean Committee on Cultural and Information (Asean-COCI), as part of an initiative to encourage students to nurture their talents and promote interaction among the people in Asean member countries and to help preserve and promote its diverse cultural heritage.

Targeting some 500 students across Asean member states, the Asean News-Maker Project is jointly organised by the Media Development Authority of Singapore, and Singapore software developer Eyepower Games Pte Ltd.

Cassandra Tay, the Director of Communication, Community and International Relations, who was speaking on behalf of Dr Christopher Chia, the CEO of Media Development Authority of Singapore, said that some 120 students from 27 schools in Singapore created clips that weaved unique tales of life when the workshop was conducted earlier in June.

She added that the workshop subsequently travelled to Malaysia where more than 30 students and 20 teachers from two schools created video clips on Malacca, the traditional game of ‘gasing' and making ‘batik'.

All video clips created in the Asean NewsMaker Project including those produced by Bruneian students will be shared with the world through the Asean Media Portal at www.aseanmedia.net. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
