Bandar Seri Begawan - The two-day Asean News Maker Project started yesterday at Seameo Voctech Gadong.
During the project students will utilise the NewsMaker software to produce video clips that touches on aspects of life in their country ranging from school life to history and food.
They also learned to produce informative video clips that serve to provide better understanding of each other's culture and lifestyle. The training covered the use of the NewsMaker software, video-making techniques, as well as responsible use of the Internet.
The project is facilitated by two trainers, Phan Seow Kang, the chief operating officer and Randy Ang, the chief financial officer of Eyepower Games Private Limited.
In each member state, the project is targeted at 40 students aged between nine to 16, as well as their teachers who will take on the role of mentoring. The students and teachers will serve as multipliers to provide guidance to the other students in their school.
The main objective of the project is to help participants to develop their language skills as they were taught on how to effectively narrate and tell a story.
The project is also aimed at fostering closer relationship among Asean youths, raising awareness of the AMP, ensuring a steady stream of new content on the website and encouraging responsible use of the new media.
At the end of the training, the participants must produce and submit a five-minute video clips to the trainers on the pre-determined list of 10 topics which include a day in a student's life such as a tour of the school, teachers and activities after school and many others, which will then be packaged in broadcast news format and then uploaded to the Asean Media portal, www.aseanmedia.net.
The clips will add youthful diversity to the rich store of regional cultural information currently available on the portal.
The project was jointly organised by Brunei Darussalam Ministry of Education with the Media Development Authority Singapore and the Asean News Maker which was developed by Media Company EyePower Games Private
Limited Singapore and endorsed by the Asean Committee and Information (ASEAN-COCI).
Each team will be assigned to one of the topics which are Folklore, Rites and Rituals, History, Food, Housing and Lifestyle, Transportation System, Sports, Art, Tourist Attractions and Vanishing Trades.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
