Minister Returns From Regional Youth Meetings In Bangkok

Bandar Seri Begawan - Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Hj Ahmad bin Hj Jumat, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports returned to Brunei yesterday after attending the Sixth Asean Ministerial Meeting on Youth (6th AMMY), 2nd Asean +3 ministerial meeting on youth and the 3rd Asean-China ministerial meeting on youth hosted in Bangkok, Thailand.

With the theme Youth Participation in Building Asean Community', the Sixth Asean Ministerial Meeting on Youth (6th AMMY), the minister exchanged ideas and held discussion on action plans relating to youth in realising Asean Community by 2015.

During the meeting, the minister stressed on the importance of cooperation among the government agencies, private sectors and NGOs at the international and regional stage to allow the participation of youths in the process of building the Asean Community.

The minister also spoke of the government's commitment to increase its understanding and unity among the Asean Community through youth programmes. These include programmes by Brunei such as the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy for Asean Youth and "Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran Bella Asia Tenggara."

Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Hj Ahmad also highlighted that in line with Brunei's Vision 2035 to produce people who are knowledgeable and highly skilled, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through the Youth Development Centre prepared programmes in skills-building for youths who don't have the chance for further studies.

The minister also noted the success of the implementation of all youth exchange programmes, activities and projects since the fifth Asean Ministerial Meeting on Youth in year 2007.

During the meeting, the minister also extended warm welcome to the participation of young entrepreneurs from Asean countries to attend the "Expo Usahawan Bella 2009", to be held from August 1 to 8 in Brunei in conjunction of the National Youth Day celebration.

In the 2nd Asean +3 ministerial meeting on youth, the minister exchanged views and discussion towards increasing programmes on cooperation in youth.

Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Hj Ahmad then met with youths from Asean +3 countries, including those from Brunei who were attending the Asean +3 Youth Caucus which took place from June 19 until 29.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
