Yenny Zannubah Wahid, a high-profile speaker at the Women in Business Forum 2009
Bandar Seri Begawan - Miss Yenny Zannubah Wahid, a special staff member to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Political Communications and Director of the Wahid Institute will be speaking at the Women in Business Forum 2009 on July 8, at the Empire Hotel and Country Club.
Ms Wahid will be delivering the keynote address on "Women as Agents of Change".
Ms Wahid is an active member in key organisations in Indonesia. Since 2003, she has served as the Head of Organisational Development at the Fatayat Nandlatul Ulama, a progressive young Muslim women organisation with around five million members, responsible for formulating and carrying out programmes to build the Fatayat's capacity.
In 2005, Ms Wahid was elected Deputy Secretary General, The Awakening of the Nation Party (PKB), in charge of high-level decision-making and the formulation of political strategies and governing policies of the PKB. In this role, she is a sought-after speaker to campaign for the party's candidates in regional elections, such as elections of governors, regents and mayors.
For two years until 1999, Ms Wahid was Assistant Correspondent at the Jakarta Bureaus of the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, Melbourne covering Indonesia for the world news section of the papers. As a correspondent, she reported on many conflict areas including Aceh and East Timor. She was one of the first journalists sent to Dili after the tension that followed the UN supervised ballot in 1999.
