Kuching's Golden Triangle
Kuching - In an effort to combat snatch thefts in Kuching's 'Golden Triangle', Sarawak police have decided to increase patrolling in and around the city, especially at tourist spots, luxury hotels and elite housing estates.Sarawak Crime Investigation Department chief SAC II Huzir Mohamed said under "Ops Rentap" police had identified a number of areas where snatch theft was rampant, including tourist spots like Padungan where shopping complexes and luxury hotels are situated as well as elite housing areas.
"Apart from normal police, officers from the CID division will also patrol the areas," hey told reporters here today.
He added that police arrested five suspects yesterday and another eight today, all aged between 20 and 54 and managed to solve at least 15 snatch thefts and eight house break-ins.
Huzir said 113 snatch theft cases were reported in Kuching over the past six months.
Police believe many more cases were not reported, he said.
"I wish to advise the public to avoid lonely areas and not to wear excess jewellery that can attract snatch thieves," he said. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
