Bandar Seri Begawan - The High Commission of Canada yesterday made a courtesy call on the Minister of Communications.

Also in attendance was the Deputy Minister of Communications, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Yusof bin Hj Abdul Hamid.

The High Commissioner said that Canada is one of the strongest IT nations as well as home to the Blackberry hardware, which is located at Waterloo, Ontario and its Java Software in Calgary.

The Head of Mission encouraged Brunei to establish a blackberry network as all major economies and firms rely on it for wireless emails. He also spoke about Canada's Civil Aviation Department, BOMBARDIER of Canada, the world's leading manufacturer of regional aircraft, for promoting their sales, CRI Regional Jet for the BIMP/EAGA region.

The aircraft is also fuel-efficient and has a break-even point of only 41 passengers. As for trade matters in general, Nurul Salwani Sabtu, Trade Missioners for the High Commissioner of Canada will be participating in a communication event in Singapore.

He also said that COMMUN1C ASIA in Singapore would be conducting a business matching for Brunei SME's and government meetings with Canadian Firms and their government.

Canada established diplomatic relations with Brunei Darussalam in 1984, following Brunei's independence. Brunei opened its chancery in Ottawa in 1995 and Canada opened its embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan the following year.

The sultanate has worked closely with Canada to help revitalise Canada's relations with the region, and its assistance has been important in organising other key events, including the inaugural Canada-Asean Senior Economic Officials' Meeting and Business Forum in Toronto in May 2005.

written by Ali Baba , June 05, 2009
I've heard that DST is starting their Blackberry network, is there any truth to this, cause I really want to go buy one.. as soon as possible, but I'd opt for a Iphone instead if I cant get support for the Blackberry in Brunei.
