Give us enough water to have a decent shower
We pay our bills regularly. Nothing is overdue.

But why is the water pressure, supplying to houses in Perpindahan Lambak Kanan first phase, so very low?

While taking a shower, I can hear my neighbour yelling "tutup ayingggg, aku mandi niii!".

Well, I do admit sometimes I found it funny to hear my neighbour shout for everyone to hear about his bathing time, but it turned really frustrating when it happened to me.

Well, not only me. I tried calling the water department and they were nice enough to answer the phone.

Their reply was "work is being done somewhere nearby".

But this was three months ago.

And I called again only a few days ago and this time the reason was that work was being done in Bukit Barun.

Well I guess it is such a huge plant because they sure are taking a lot of time.

This has been going on for more than a year. The only time water pressure is good enough is when nobody in the area uses it. I called them again and again but we received the same answer.

Work is done here or there.

This has been going on for a long time.

I guess they are not doing their work. If they are, I wouldn't be writing to this section.

Relieved over halal info

I wish to congratulate "Easy Islam" for clarifying the Halal issue which has been causing confusion amongst fellow Muslims in Brunei for a very long time.

Can't we have some peace at night?

I am a resident living at Seri, Jln.Tutong near a department store.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet here after 10pm and certainly no more noise after 12pm.

But all this has changed now.

Now after midnight we still have many people wondering around or just parking cars at the car park sitting there chatting.

Sometimes they even turn up the music loud, and sport cars and motorbikes zoom around with their engines blaring out loud, especially on Saturday night. I hope the police will patrol this area. The situation has been going on for a few months.

My family and I have been tolerating all this very patiently, but the situation has turned worse especially since a nearby restaurant had set up a large TV screen in the car park. This sure attracts a lot of customers but also crowds park at the car park just to watch TV.

As the heat of the world cup is on now, the crowd here has increased day by day, and the sound of cheering, screaming and shouting for goal becomes louder and louder (and even some people increase the car music until its so very loud while parked at the carpark to watch the World Cup together).

I understand their enthusiasm for football but I am also angry at the same time for being disturbed at night.

I've lived here for years and enjoy the quiet environment too.

Why should I deserve this now?

Now it's only the star of World Cup, but the crowd has become so loud already - and we can't imagine how much louder it will grow next.

Get your act together

It was really strange to see on Astro's AXN today the making of Peter Jackson's 'Return of the King' with the announcement it will be opening in December. This is the final episode of the Trilogy Lord Of The Rings and was shown three years ago - December 2003 to be exact, at our cinemas here.

Actually we in Brunei enjoyed the world premiere and now Astro shamelessly announces that it will be opening in December.

We viewers are used to the never ending old films shown on Astro and numerous repeats as well as the the makings of old films being telecast "live", but this one I heard today was too much.

Does Astro think we are so backward that they can simply air the making of an old movie without even bothering to edit it properly? Get your act together Astro.

Police patrols needed

There should be more police patrol around Gadong department store car parks, the Jubilee garden at Kiulap, the Stadium car park, the small area next to the school in Bunut.

Can we call Police or Fire Dept if open burning spotted?

How to stop open burning? I noticed people like to burn rubbish, dried leaves etc in their backyard or garden.

Do they ever realise how this will affect their neighbours?

My next-door neighbour too was 'having' leaves burned very often and it happened again yesterday late afternoon.

My house, everyone and everything in the house smelled badly and I could not sleep last night. Could it worsen and even spark a fire because we are staying in a wooden house.

Look, this selfish act doesn't only affect the neighbours, but it affects the Earth as well. Global warming is getting serious everyday. Maybe by stopping open burning, we can save, not to say a lot, the iceberg in the North and South Pole, which is melting bit-by-bit everyday. Can we contact the relevant authorities like Bomba or Police if open burning occurs?

Accident victim's lament

On June 2 I was involved in a head-on collision with a vehicle driven by a foreigner in front of Panaga golf club.

We were heading to BSRC from a friend's house, while the other vehicle was heading in the opposite direction.

As a result of the collision, I was hospitalised and I have fractures on my chest and several injuries to my abdomen and waist.

My friend had cuts on her knees and internal injuries to her chest. The driver came into my lane and hit me very hard and ended up with my car spinning several times.

Then the occupants of the vehicle pulled me out of the car and asked me to 'walk'. Why?

Thank God a lady doctor whom I met 15 minutes before the accident at my friend's house was there. She came and scolded them for asking me to walk.

I would like to offer many thanks to the doctors from KB hospital, friends, teachers from Panaga school, and aerobics class, who came and helped me. I really appreciate it.

TelBru wants to meet surfers with complaints

We refer to the opinion "We need a connection not compensation" expressed by S&K Berakas (BB June 14, 2006) and "Still lagging behind" by Annoyed E-speeder (BB, June 17, 2006).

We would like to thank the writers for their remarks and suggestions to improve our espeed2 services.

As part of its maintenance routine, TelBru has carried out a regular assessment of the performance of espeed2 and would like to take this opportunity to share our findings.

Generally, the sources of problems for espeed2 can occur in the following points: International Internet Uplink: Currently BruNet has two 155Mbit/s uplinks to the Internet through two different providers namely TMHK (Hongkong) and Teleglobe (USA) where the traffic utilisation is only 60% and 80% respectively. Interruption of service does not occur very often and only when submarine cables are cut and this is usually beyond our control. This is also the reason why we have two diversified links.

BruNet Core Network: This is the gateway connecting to Internet. As of early 2004, BruNet has commissioned a totally new Core network and a back up network to ensure reliability and availability.

Up to date, there has not been any major downtime except occasionally scheduled maintenance.

Broadband and Transmission Network: This is the ADSL network that allows high bandwidth over the normal copper cable that is originally intended for telephone services.

Up to date there has never been a major downtime that affects our transmission network.

Copper Network: The copper cable that connects customer to our network.

Customers' Devices at their Premises: This includes the internal wiring, modem, PC, routers and customer network at home. It can be concluded that the sources of problems can occur either within our networks which can easily be attended to or at the customers' premises which contributes to 85% of the faults. This includes internal wiring at the customer's house, the modem and wireless routers, PC configuration as well as PC infected by viruses as well as other computer related problems.

Due to the unique nature of this type of fault, it is important that we meet the customers so that we can better understand their unique problems and help to resolve them.

We are frustrated with some of the writers of the opinion page because they are not helping themselves by not coming forward although we need them to provide information so that we can solve their specific problems.

In addressing the issue of compensation, our offer is genuine to address the problem and we hope it provides an incentive for our customers to come forward.

Hotline number to report dead animals on the road

I live along Jalan Kebangsaan and almost every week I find a dog run over by fast moving automobiles and either the matter is never reported to the authorities or the garbage collectors delay the clearing.

Whatever the reason, a dead dog was lying on the road upto three days mutilated beyond recognition by speeding vehicles running over it again and again. The obnoxious smell and polluton in the atmosphere was simply horrible to see.

Just recently the same thing happened very close to my home along the same area on Jalan Kebangsaan. It was a dead dog again. I was trying to contact the Municipal authorities after office hours and the whole of the next day but to no avail.

In the UK for instance, it is an offence not to report the matter of killing a stray animal on the road.

Why don't we introduce a similar law and make offending motorists partly responsible for disposing the dead dog or cat or at least make them responsible to report the matter to the authorities who may dispose of the dead animal in the most hygienic way within an hour or two after the accident?

Above all, can we inform people like who the right authority is, to get in touch with to arrange for the disposal of the dead animal?

And one more important suggestion is to include a telephone number in the telephone directory under the same pages that list "Perkhidmatan-Perkhidmatan Penting (Air, Elektrik, Penderaan etc)" and in the mobile phone built-in numbers, a special number to get in touch with to report dead animals on the road.
