RBA Business : RBA is now facing a hard time as it has to compete indirectly with foreign budget carrier such as Air Asia, Tiger Airways and ValuAir. Air Asia now operates to southern Thailand in its new expansion programme. Air Asia is competing with Thai Airways and Malaysian Airlines on their domestic routes. Sooner, it will touch down to Brunei and Limbang as it has increased flights to Miri and Labuan. Malaysian Airlines has been requested to divert its flight to Miri from Tokyo, Taipei, Hong Kong, Xiamen and Kaoshiung to Kota Kinabalu. Australian carrier is also reported to have landed in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. RBA business looks like in big trouble this time. Marketing dept has tried its best to sell its produce and should not be blamed for any failure. At the moment, RBA is just like a public transport. We buy $1 dollar and sell 70 cents of our product. What the CEO is going to do is to call RBA’s consultants by giving them extra bonus. The answer will be yes. Spreading RBA wings to Sydney, Ho Chi Minh City and Korea or to purchase or leased new aircraft is all a bullxxx. At this time of economic problem, world major carriers or regional carriers are closing their doors to new route but suspending the routes which do not generate revenue until the economic resume. During non-economic problem, RBA had flown to Zurich, Myanmar, Beijing, Kansai, Bahrain and Cairo but later closed down, what happened? RBA also bought few aircrafts in the past, again what happened. Who is accountable and responsible on this project? Info received that RBA leased A319, A320. Few of the B767 are still on loan from IBB Bank. CEO reported all the B767 will be 'recto fitting' to have a new look. Sources reported the estimate cost for the whole project would be around $50 million or more. Who is going to fund the entire project? RBA now keeps on spending and spending as reported. During Pg Axx, Dato Axxxxx, Dato Paduka A and Pehin Y time, RBA reported to have limited budget to run the operation.  All travellers around the world are looking for affordable cheapest fare for their journey such as what budget airline introduce. The RBA flight to/from Auckland was reported to be fully occupied. Remember these passengers are paying the lowest fare or promotional fares as reported. This is only low yield business that does not really generate high revenue to the airline. CEO is not to be blamed. RBA BOD and Chairman pretend not to know what CEO is doing. They have to play safe by closing their eyes and ears and ensure every thing is going smooth like silk. If you start talking about RBA future planning/expansion programmes and improvement to foreign carriers, they will start laughing looking at you. This is really a sad moment and you will hear what their comments are. Singapore senior minister did a very good comment on SIA recent problem with their pilots. RBA really needs a purely loyal and honest management to run the airlines to secure it from losing every year. Hopefully, RBA will not end up with huge debts at the end of the day. Airline Observer  20.12.2003
