Currently Brunei has no legislation specific to domestic violence and a draft of the domestic violence order is still being considered by relevant authorities as the nation has been seeing a steady rise in domestic violence cases year-on-year from 2000 to 2006.

According to the statistics from the Criminal Investigation Unit, there were 144 cases of violence against women, compared to 125 in 2006, while 27 cases of violence against children, compared to 25 in 2006.
