Bandar Seri Begawan - A 25-year-old Malaysian man was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment and one stroke of the cane by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to living in part on the earnings of two prostitutes.

Chieng Boung Dong, who was previously employed as a cook at a restaurant in Batu Bersurat, admitted to receiving between $10 and $30 from the $100 charge per client by each of the prostitute for sexual intercourse.

The court heard that the two prostitutes were arrested 11 days ago in two rooms of a hotel near Bandar Seri Begawan by a team of police personnel from the Anti-Vice Unit after receiving information from the public regarding activities relating to prostitution.

One of the prostitute, Li Hongju, 23, who is from the People's Republic of China was found with $100 inside a handbag together with 22 unused

condoms in a room, while Keqin Dai, also 23 years of age, was also found with $100 inside a handbag and one unused condom. Both were naked and with a client in their respective rooms.

The defendant, who is born in Sarawak and single, was arrested in the other room together with four women from China. He surrendered a mobile phone and $321 together with unused condom under a bed in the room, the court was told.

The defendant acted as an agent for the two prostitutes by looking for clients and making sure that there was a room available for the two prostitutes and their clients.
