Ministry Scholarships

Begawan - The Ministry of Religious Affairs has awarded
scholarships to 35 local students to pursue further studies abroad
for the 2007/2008 academic session.
Two of the five recipients of the
master degree scholarships departed yesterday. Ida Nurhafiza Hj
Matnoor would be taking MSc in Accounting and Finance while Siti
Norain Mohamad would be undertaking MSc Development Economics and
Policy. Both would be studying at the University of Manchester in
the United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, two other Masters
scholars - Nooraini Hj A.Ahmad taking Msc Economics Development and
Policy Analysis and Hartina Hj Mohamad Ariffin, taking MSc Economics
- will be leaving on September 22to the University of Nottingham.
Another recipient who will
undertake a master degree programme is Dk Hailmyana Pg Md Yusof, who
chose to take Master of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage in
Usul Fiqh at the international Islamic University Malaysia. In
addition to the five, there are 26 recipients of scholarships for
various Bachelor Degree programmes.
Of the number, 19 have chosen to go
to Egypt to pursue their studies, six others to Malaysia and one
person opted to study in the UK.
Those who chose Egypt as their
studying destination left the country earlier on September 13. A
group of 15 will be undergoing their studies at the A1-Azhar
University, Cairo, one of the oldest operating universities in the
world.
Nine of them will be taking the
Sarjana Muda Syariah Islam, three chose to do Sarjana Muda Usuluddin
(Aqidah and Falsafah), and the other three will be doing the Sarjana
Muda Usuluddin (Dakwah), Sarjana Muda Usuluddin (Hadith and Ulum
Hadith) and Sarjana Muda Usuluddin (Tafsir and Ulum Quran),
respectively. The other two scholars in Egypt will be studying at
the Ma'had Qiraat Al-Azrah Shoubra, undertaking Sarjana Muda Al-Quran
Wal Qiraat.
Meanwhile, the scholarship
recipients who chose to go to Malaysia will be doing their
respective degrees at the International Islamic University.
Five will be doing the Bachelor of
Islamic Religious Knowledge and Heritage (Quran and Sunnah), and the
other two will be taking Bachelor of Islamic Religious Knowledge and
Heritage (Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion), and a double degree
in Bachelor of Laws (Civil with Syari'ah), respectively.
Nurul Syazwani Hj Kahar/ Hj Abdul
Kahar, the only recipient to undergo her bachelor degree in the
United Kingdom, will be leaving on September 21.
She will be leaving for the
University of Bath, undertaking Master of Pharmacy, which has been
recognised as comparable to a bachelor degree honours qualification.
Another batch of scholarship
recipients make up the Skim Khas Tenaga Akademik.
This group of ten had left the
country on September 10.
Under the scholarship, they will be
pursuing their ‘A’ Levels studies. One is attending the Headington
School Oxford, three are placed the Owestry School and one in
Bedford School. The exclusive scholarships were awarded to students
