By Chancey Pacheco & Rafiah Meer
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Representatives from 15 schools in Brunei
Darussalam recently, gathered at ISB for the "Eco-Council Open
Morning" began with a talk about ISB's the “day environmental
efforts in and around school by Ms Rachel Duce.
Students were divided into groups
and were given a tour around the school by members of the
Eco-Council such as Ms C Hancox, Mr J Holmes, Mrs SJ Green, Mr S
-Green,' Ms R Duce and other representatives of the council.
Among other things, the visitors
took a closer look at various "'monuments" of ISB's involvement with
the environment such as the tree nursery located by the swimming
pool, the murals on the wall of the primary block, the eco-trailer,
the pond behind the drama room and the recycling; bins that have
been strategically placed around school.
During the tour, the
representatives from the 15 schools learnt about the systematic
`green' methods used in class such as the purpose of recycling boxes
and printing quotas per student during ICT lessons,
During a small break, the guests
were entertained by Mr P Sanderson and other members of the
Environmental Council with a sing-a-long, where the ever popular "We
Will Recycle" song was sung to the tune of "We are the Champions".
Two workshops were conducted later
that day. Half of the visitors tested- their' creativity by
designing recycling boxes using only recyclable material, while the
other half kept themselves busy in the ICT room to browse
environment websites that can be found on the school's main page.
After the final talk was delivered
by Mr David Taylor about the "Million Trees Project".
