Strong Brunei, Vietnam Ties Lauded
At Reception
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Brunei Darussalam and Vietnam are close neighbours
with longstanding friendship and cooperation. Both are also members
of Asean, Apec and Asem, as well as many other regional and
international associations.
The establishment of diplomatic
relations between the two countries 15 years ago has opened up a new
chapter in their bilateral relationship. In that period of time,
there have also been steady and fast developments in cooperation.
This was highlighted by Mr. Pham
Binh Man, the Ambassador of Vietnam to Brunei, at a reception
yesterday to mark the 62nd Anniversary of Vietnam's National Day at
Sheraton Utama Hotel.
"Together, we have gone further
into many areas, such as politics, security, economics, trade,
education and others. People-to-people contact and visits made by
high-ranking leaders have also seen an increase," he stated.
He added, "We have strong
confidence that with the joint efforts and determination by our two
governments and the people, the friendship and cooperation between
Vietnam and Brunei will continue to be developed bilaterally, as
well as multilaterally, in the interest of peace, stability and
prosperity."
He also sent his wishes of good
health and happiness to His Majesty and the royal family, as well as
Vietnamese leaders.
Prior to the start of last night's
grand dinner, the ambassador also presented a token of appreciation
to Pehin Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong, Minister of
Communications, who was the guest of honour.
