Teachers Undergo Workshop On
Special Education

Begawan - In an effort to provide quality services and
programmes to enable all students to reach their full potential, the
Ministry of Education through the Special Education Unit has
organised a number of in-service training programmes for teachers to
ensure that they are well informed about recent developments in
special education.
One such professional development
programme is the two-day national seminar and workshop on
"Curriculum Guide for Students with High Support Needs", which
commenced yesterday at the Civil Service Institute in Rimba.
On hand to officiate the launching
of the seminar and workshop was the guest of honour, Dyg Hjh
Donnaliza bte Abdullah Puasa, the Director of Schools' Inspectorate
and Acting Head of Special Education Unit.
A keynote address was delivered by
Levan Lim, an associate professor from the National Institute of
Education, Singapore.
A guest speaker, Vincent Yeo, the
Curriculum Director from the Association for Persons with Special
Needs, Singapore, meanwhile, shared his expertise on implementing
instructional strategies and activities for students with
intellectual impairment.
Levan
and Vincent also delivered a talk on "Reference Framework for the
Effective Use of the Curriculum Guide for Students with High Support
Needs".
The Special Education Unit believes
that it is crucial for teachers and other professionals to
participate in such programmes. The enhancement of teachers'
personal and professional development in special education is a key
objective of the Special Education Unit.
The Special Education Unit believes
that the quality of education provided for children is of critical
importance to the country. In light of this, the Ministry of
Education sees the importance for all community members to ensure
that children have the opportunity to become contributing members of
society.
The Special Education Unit
continues to strive to ensure the provision of appropriate teaching
training, school facilities, special education resources and
specialist support services.
It is hoped that the two-day
seminar and workshop programme will help all participants gain new
knowledge and skills on special education.
At the closing of the seminar and
workshop today, certificates will be presented to over 300
