Absentee Voters' Registration Extended
By Tony Alabastro

Bandar Seri Begawan - Another month-long extension for the registration of Filipino Overseas Absentee Voters in Brunei until October 31, 2006 has been given.

Filipinos abroad, specially those with dual citizenships, clamoured for additional time considerations, the Philippine Embassy said.

This was especially after the Philippine Supreme Court ruled that dual; citizens now have the right to register and vote without complying with the residency status requirement for OAV registrants, it added.

Registration will be on from Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 12.30pm, and from 1.30 to 5.30pm, and on Saturday from 8.30am to 12.30pm, and on Sunday, from loam to 12pm,, and 1pm to 4pm.

The Embassy urged all qualified Filipinos in Brunei to register as Filipino overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) for the May 2007 national election, where they can vote for 12 new Senators and Party List Representatives.

Filipino registrants are advised to bring their passports and photocopies of their data pages. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
