‘Historic Moment To Remember' Book Launched
By Lyna Mohamad

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Darussalam, at its full independence, was proclaimed a country based on the philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB), which contributes to the nation's building of peace, tranquillity and prosperity for all the people in the Sultanate.

This was stated by Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Date Paduka Awg Goh King Chin during the launching of a book called "A Historic Moment To Remember" yesterday.

The guest of honour, who is also a member of the National Council of MIB, recently attended a forum on the philosophy of MIB at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).

Citing the 1959 Constitution of Brunei Darussalam, he explained that as the Head of State, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, has supreme power to promulgate all laws. His Majesty is also the head of religion.

He noted that some members of the Chinese community attended last Wednesday's forum.

"I believe this forum has given members of the Chinese community a better understanding on the concept of MIB," Pehin Dato Gob said, adding that MIB is a good concept that should be appreciated by all levels of the community, regardless of their race or religion.

Pehin Dato Goh also called on the Chinese community to carry on contributing to all activities related to nation building.

The new book was to commemorate the Chinese New Year Get-Together held in February this year, where His Majesty and other members of the royal family consented to join in the celebrations. It was a historic moment for the Chinese community.

Yesterday's launching began with an introduction of the book by the chief editor and creative director, Mr Sim Chong Siang, who was speaking on behalf of Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd, which published the book.

After launching the new book, the guest of honour presented copies of the book to other guests who were mostly sponsors of the book and those who took part in the Chinese New Year Get-Together.

Among the sponsors of the-book were Cheng Wah Restaurant & Bar, D-Best printing & Trading Co, Hockian Association Brunei, Maju Motors Sdn Bhd, Malpy Machinery (B) Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Perniagaan Malar Setia and HSBC.

Members of the public can obtain a copy of the book for free from Sunlit Advertising in Beribi II industrial complex. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
