Holy Month Call To Put Muslim
Faith Into Action
By Asri Razak
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Muslim worshippers gathered at mosques around Brunei
Darussalam yesterday for the first Friday prayers of the holy fasting
month of Ramadan.
The young and the old, citizens,
permanent residents and foreigners came together to pray and listen to
the sermon, as encouraged in the Islamic way of life throughout the
world.
In yesterday's sermon, Muslims were
called on to strengthen their faith during Ramadan by dutily
performing Islamic obligations. "We cannot have an over-reliance on
praying, prayer recitals, and donating. All good deeds carried out
must be carried out with sincerity, and to not go against the
principles of Islam is a must," the imams told their congregations.
Muslims must be responsible in their
jobs and comply with the appropriate rules and etiquette, they said,
adding: "An honest and trustworthy worker in their job is a smart
person who knows how to manage time and time in the workplace leading
to productivity."
During Ramadan, Muslims make a
special effort to attend Friday prayers and the Terawih prayers that
are held daily after breaking the fast. Brunei's two national mosques,
the Sultan Haji Omar'Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the Hassanal Bolkiah
Mosque, are the focal points throughout the month.
