Civil Servants Urged To Polish
Their Act
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Imams on Friday cautioned civil servants not to waste
precious time and resources by playing truant.
|
The religious leaders urged them to
maintain ethics in government departments and fulfill their
obligations in a responsible way.
In a sermon in conjunction with
Civil Services Day today, the religious leaders admonished the
public servants not to `escape' from their office during working
hours as it could very well jeopardise the workflow of the
government machinery and its efforts to look after public welfare.
Imams also called on the civil
servants not to use their position in the government to secure
jobs for their kin, ignoring other suitable applicants. This would
be solely looking after one's interests, the religious leaders
cautioned.
The civil servants were also
called to nurture good ethics while performing their duties in
serving the nation and the public. |

Only by practising such ethics could
make a person more disciplined, efficient, loyal and be
trustworthy to perform their duties.
Imams also urged civil servants
to be courteous and patient as only through being so would they
have the strength of heart or feeling to face any pressures or
difficulties. In this situation, they will not be in great haste
in making decisions or feel angry, impolite or impatient. |
A person who is patient in his work
is peaceful enough when facing problems and not hot-tempered when
criticised or furious, but forgiving. Being courteous will make one
gentle. Courteous, observant and helpful are qualities needed in every
department of every organisation. In this context, the public or
customer is also urged to possess similar qualities like patience and
courtesy.
The 13th- Civil Service Day
Celebration will take place at the International Convention Centre in
Berakas with the highlight of the event being the presentations of the
Civil Service Excellent Awards and Retirement Certificates and the
reading of the Civil Service Pledge.
This year seven teams have taken part
in the Civil Service Excellent Awards in the Financial and Service
Delivery Category. Meanwhile a number of activities have been arranged
and most comprise sports activities to be held throughout the year.
There is also Tahlil activity planned at the Royal Mausoleum. --
