Richard Chia Kok Hong
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Did Richard Chia Kok Hong, 53, a car salesman charged
with murdering a family of three just before Christmas two years ago,
use his wife's car BN-8908 when allegedly committingthe heinous crime?
The prosecution is saying yes. But
the defence is all set to disprove it. And the defence is due to bring
in two more expert witnesses next month from overseas to convince the
court.
Their first DNA consultant from
Perth, Dr Brain Leslie McDonald, on Tuesday cast doubts on the stains
found on the seat of Richard's wife's car.
He said the investigators could have
brought in the stains from the bloodied scene of crime and
contaminated the vehicle. That was due to their carelessness and
sloppy work, he suggested.
The manner in which the evidence was
lifted was also criticised. The stains were also too minute and did
not meet the laboratory criteria, he told the court.
Chief Justice Dato Mohammad Saied and
Justice Dato Steven Chong are hearing the case.
Prosecution is led by Deputy Public
Prosecutor Haji Yusree and assisted by DPP Pengiran Nina Jasmine.
Awang Yusof Halim and Siva Sankaran are defending. Earlier in a
statement Richard said: "I drive a silver Nissan Cefiro motorcar
bearing registration number KG9494. This car is registered in the name
of my friend Tan Kooi Chuan. I have had this car since 2001.
"My wife drives a green Nissan Sunny
motorcar registration BN8908. This car was initially registered under
my name and was bought in 1995. In 2000, the ownership of the car was
transferred to my wife's name. I seldom drive this car.
"I only drive it when sending it for
repairs or servicing, or when I do the renewal of its road tax."
Richard was arrested two months after the incident and has been in
remand jail ever since. Hearing continues. -- Courtesy of Borneo
