Vendors Reminded To Sell Halal
Food
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - As food vendors are mushrooming throughout the
country, selling various delicacies for people to break the fast, the
religious authority responsible for the 'Halalness' of food items that
are sold urged those selling meat products to keep receipts of
purchase to facilitate officials during inspections.
Canned products made from meat, which
are not certified yet by Brunei's Islamic Religious Council, should be
segregated from those already certified as Halal by the Council, said
Head of Board for Issuing Halal Import Permit, Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj
Abd Rahman.
"To glorify the holy month of
Ramadhan and to show respect to Muslims who perform the obligatory
fasting, food vendors in the country must ensure that the food sold to
Muslim customers are Halal as approved by the Council," he added.
Officers from the law enforcement of
the Halal Food Control Division of the Syariah Affairs Department
accompanied by other enforcement agencies will carry out inspections
during the holy month to ensure that food and drinks sold at Ramadhan
food stalls are Halal.
He said cooperation from the vendors
on this matter in glorifying the holy month will be highly
appreciated. -- Courtesy of Borneo
